Dear Patient,

We would like to invite you to take part in some free strength and balance exercise classes to help reduce your risk of having a fall in the future. Classes take place at various locations across the Borough and last for 12 weeks.
To attend a face to face class please complete the booking form using this link: https://app.upshot.org.uk/signup/48e7d410/80ddc6bca6052747/

Someone will be in touch with you to book you into a class.
The Otago Strength and Balance programme is designed specifically to prevent falls. It consists of a set of muscle strengthening and balance retraining exercises. All the exercises are individually prescribed and increase in difficulty.
The benefits of attending classes:

Preserving and/or increasing musculoskeletal function via physical activity and exercise is a prerequisite for maintaining mobility and independent living.

Evidence shows that specific programmes for improving strength and balance can reduce the risk of falls by as much as 55%. Strength, flexibility, balance and reaction time are considered the most readily modifiable risk factors for falls.

Being active and especially into older age can help to slow down the rate that muscles deteriorate. This can help people remain active and independent as long as possible and also reduce the risk of falls in later life.
If you would prefer to exercise on your own we also have the classes available on video which can be found here: Falls prevention exercise videos – YouTube
